It seems Penelope, aka Lady Whistledown, was dropping identity hints all along. It’s kinda shockingly perfect, given that Penelope is shy and that she seemingly kept trying to figure out the identity of Lady Whistledown alongside her bestie Eloise Bridgerton all season. Based on the book series by Julia Quinn, Bridgerton is a story set during the regency era in London, and follows the lives of the titular Bridgerton family and their other high society counterparts. As Eloise realizes Madame Delacroix couldn’t possibly be Whistledown, the real deal is revealed: Penelope, a.k.a. She knows Eloise is smart; she knows Eloise will figure it out eventually. Lady Whistledown uses a direct quote in the introduction to her column, while Penelope references the poet in an offhand remark regarding a suitor’s bad poetry.
